Ding is prof. at Shanghai Inst. of Materia Medica (SIMM), Chinese Academy of Sciences, and member of Chinese Academy of Engineering. He received his Ph.D in 1991 from Kyushu U., Fukuoka, Japan. Ding made important contributions to understanding molecular mechanisms of anticancer drugs and identifying molecular biomarkers to enable precision cancer therapy. Ding is the pioneer in targeted anticancer drug discovery in China and is the co-inventor of 10 innovative drug candidates, including 4 at clinical trials. Ding served as deputy director (1997-2004), and director (2004-2014) of SIMM for 17 years, during which SIMM has grown into one of the most important incubators for drug innovation in China. His honors include Prize of Sci. and Tech. Progress of Ho Leung Ho Lee Found., Wu Jieping Medical-Paul Janssen Pharmaceutical Research Award, Second degree of National Natural Science Award(China) etc..
