Noriko Osumi, professor of Developmental Neuroscience at Tohoku University (TU), was appointed Director of the Neuroscience Core Center in TU's School of Medicine in 2011, and Executive Director of United Centers of Advanced Research & Translational Medicine in 2015. She holds a PhD from Tokyo Medical and Dental University (TMDU). Her research interests span broad areas including pre- and postnatal development of the brain and behavior of animals as models of psychiatric diseases. She is one of 25 Distinguished Professors of Tohoku University and a member of the Japanese Science Council. Osumi serves on several governmental committees such as grant system development and career paths for young scientists. In 1985 she received the Nagao Memorial Award from TMDU, and in 2006 the NISTEP Researcher Award from the Japanese ministry of education, culture, sports, science and technology. She is a Board member of the Japan Neuroscience Society, The Molecular Biology Society of Japan, etc.
