Biodata
Dr. Samira Omar Asem is an environmental science specialist who earned her PhD from UC Berkeley in 1990. She holds the distinction of being the first Kuwaiti woman to serve as Director General of the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR), where she oversaw and managed scientific research centers specializing in petroleum, energy, water, environment and life sciences, as well as techno-economics. Dr. Omar’s association with the institute began in the 1970s, during which time she led and contributed to numerous research projects related environment and agriculturea. She is a Research Fellow at both the American Academy of Art & Science (AAAS) and the Third World Academy of Science (TWAS). Dr. Omar is the author of 41 refereed journal articles and 26 books. In 2024, she was awarded a certificate for her innovative design “Vertical Tubers Planter and Harvester” (Serial No: 18/241,049) by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Over her distinguished career, Dr. Omar has received 22 local and international awards and recognitions from esteemed scientific institutions, underscoring her extensive contributions to research and innovation.
