The 4th African Symposium on Big Data, Analytics, and Machine Intelligence, and 18th TYAN International Thematic Workshop (TITO) were held from 17–20 June 2024 at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Nigeria.
The events explored the theme Data-Driven AI for a Sustainable Society and Economy, and featured keynote talks by Prof. Ingmar Weber (Germany) and Prof. KC Santosh (USA), as well as presentations from TYAN members including Prof. Emile Chimusa (United Kingdom), Prof. Bolanle Ojokoh (Nigeria), Hassane Aljabbouli (USA), and Hassane Bouzahir (Morocco).
With over 60 in-person speakers and volunteers, and a blend of virtual and physical sessions, the symposium fostered interdisciplinary exchange. It drew participants from across the globe, including Nigeria, Germany, USA, UK, Morocco, South Africa, Benin, Guinea, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Tunisia, Kenya, and India. Discussions spanned AI applications in health, agriculture, education, security, and climate action. The events highlighted international collaboration, promoting data-driven solutions for sustainable development and capacity building across Africa and the Global South.
