The year 2024 was a time of transition and promise for TWAS. The Academy and its partners continued to build science in the global South through its traditional fellowship, grant, exchange, and science diplomacy programmes. But several special events highlighted issues of importance to the TWAS mission, and new leadership set the stage for the Academy’s fifth decade of service.
The year 2023 was a milestone year for TWAS. Marking the end of its fourth decade, the Academy and its partners continued to build science in the global South through its traditional fellowships, grant, exchange, and science diplomacy programmes.
Special events highlighted the vital contribution of TWAS, centring the all-important role of universal access to education and training in science.
The year 2022 saw further growth and advancement for TWAS. With help from its partners, the Academy worked tirelessly on its core mission to strengthen science capacity in the global South through fellowships, grants, exchanges, special events, and leveraging its roles in international science policy and science diplomacy.
With the passing of another year in which the world is being reshaped to meet emerging challenges, The World Academy of Sciences for the advancement of science in developing countries has also changed, while marking numerous successes along the way.
As the world faced a global pandemic that has been transforming the world’s understanding of science and international relations, TWAS continued to progress in 2020. The Academy went on to provide important opportunities to researchers from the developing world, and it was increasingly influential globally as a centre for science policy and science diplomacy.
