From the contents: TWAS celebrated its 25th anniversary last November in Mexico City, at the headquarters of the Mexican Academy of Sciences in Tlalpan. The event provided an opportunity for the Academy to assess both its own accomplishments and the progress that has been made in building scientific and technological capacity in the South, particularly the state of S&T in Mexico, exploring what this means not only for Latin America’s second-most populous country but also for other countries that share the same status in scientific capabilities. Also in this issue: An article profiling two TWAS-supported research units in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Indonesia that are carrying out chemical and pharmacological studies of plants indigenous to their countries in the search for new treatments for malaria and other diseases.
