Chen is professor, Shanghai Jiao Tong U. School of Medicine; director, State Key Laboratory of Medical Genomics;director, Shanghai Institute of Hematology, and director, National Research Center for Translational Medicine (Shanghai). She also holds the position of vice-chairman of the Chinese Medical Association. She graduated from Shanghai Second Medical University (presently Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine) as a bachelor in 1975, got her Master's degree in medicine in 1981 and DSc in 1989 at Paris VII University of France. Her study is focused on leukemia cytogenetics and molecular genetics. She has published more than 300 papers in high level peer reviewed international journals with over 21000 citations. Her awards include: Second Prize of National Natural Science Award by State Council of China; Top Ten Women Elites of China. Her membership includes: Chinese Academy of Engineering and French Academy of Medical Sciences.
