Biodata
Goodman has been studying different aspects of the Malagasy fauna for more than three decades, focusing in particular on mammals and birds, publishing more than 700 scientific articles and books on different subjects, most of them centered on the island’s fauna. He holds the post of MacArthur Field Biologist at the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago and is the vice-president of the Association Vahatra in Antananarivo, of which he is one of the founding members. Goodman earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan, his PhD from the University of Hamburg, and his habilitation from the University of Paris. He has worked on Madagascar’s fauna for close to 40 years, living on the island during most of the past 35 years. Goodman has received numerous international awards for his research and conservation related work. In recognition of his work, the University of Antananarivo awarded him an honorary doctorate (Doctor Honoris Causa).
