Biodata
Jagessar obtained his Bachelor of Science with distinction in chemistry–biology from the University of Guyana (1992) and his PhD from Oxford University, UK (1995). He served as an assistant lecturer at the University of Guyana, from 1991 to 1992. From 1996 to 1999, he held three postdoctoral research fellowships: at the University of South Carolina, Columbia, and Wichita State University, Kansas (both in US), and at the University of the West Indies. In 2022, he also earned a Diploma in Education (DiPEd) with distinction in higher education from the University of Guyana. Jagessar has received several international honours: he was designated a chartered chemist, and elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (UK). He is also a recipient of the Guyana Innovation Prize and a Fellow of the Caribbean Academy of Sciences. His research interests span pure and applied chemistry, chemical biology, and pharmaceutical chemistry. He has published over 100 research articles, five book chapters, one book, three e-books, and has presented at over 100 conferences locally, regionally, and internationally.
