Dr. Oswalt R. Jiménez is a specialist in agrobiotechnology, seed technology, and plant breeding, graduated (MSc & Ph.D.) from the University of Helsinki, Finland. During his career, he has held important work positions at universities and government institutions devoted to agriculture. He has leaded research teams at the national level in alliance with prestigious international agencies. His work is focused on the use of local plant genetic resources in plant breeding programs aided by biotechnological tools, under conventional and participatory approaches. He has promoted the use of molecular markers to preserve the genetic purity of commercially released plant varieties and the study of local microbiota with high potential for crop management and multiple disease control. Currently, Dr. Jiménez is the Director of the Institute for Training, Research, and Environmental Development (CIDEA) of the University of Central America (UCA), as well as an advisor on issues of food security of the Interdisciplinary Institute of Natural Sciences of the same university.
