Ngo Bao Chau

Ngô received his PhD from Paris-Sud University in 1997 under the supervision of Gérard Laumon. He joined the French National Centre for Scientific Research in 1998 as a research fellow and became a professor at Paris-Sud University in 2004. From 2007 to 2010, he was a long-term member of the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey. He subsequently joined the University of Chicago as a professor. He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, a foreign member of the French Academy of Sciences (Académie des Sciences), a Fellow of the American Mathematical Society, and an honorary member of the London Mathematical Society. He received the Clay Research Award in 2004, the Sophie Germain Prize and the Oberwolfach Prize in 2007, and the Fields Medal in 2010. He was invited to deliver a sectional lecture at the International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) 2006 and a plenary lecture at ICM 2010. Ngô's research focuses on the geometry of the trace formula and orbital integrals. He is best known for proving the Fundamental Lemma, a landmark result in the theory of automorphic forms.
