Membership overview

The Academy's strength resides in the quality and diversity of its membership – internationally renowned scientists elected by their peers.

TWAS is a merit-based science academy. Only members can elect new members. Membership is for life. For an overview of the criteria and the election procedure, please see: Criteria for membership.

The current membership stands at 1190 – as of 15 December 2016, after the election of the 40 new Fellows of the class of 2016.

One-hundred-and-thirtyseven members are women. Eighty-three percent of TWAS Fellows live and work in developing countries.
