Roula M. Abdel-Massih is a community educator (volunteer) at Central Michigan University and a consultant at GBAC. She was a former professor at the University of Balamand in Lebanon (2003-2021) and served as Chairperson (2008-2011). Roula holds a B.Sc. and M.Sc. from the American University of Beirut and a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from the University of Glasgow (2001). Her research focuses on identifying bioactive (antibacterial and anti-proliferative properties) components from plant extracts. Roula has published over 40 papers in international journals, 2 book chapters, and presented conference proceedings in 50 International conferences.
She was elected as a TWAS Young Affiliate (2011-2015), selected by The New York Academy of Sciences and STS to participate in the 2015 Future Leaders program, and selected as an education fellow in the US National Academies in the Life Sciences (2015-2016). Roula obtained a Certificate of Completion for the APLD Program (May 2016) at Harvard and was granted the TCGA Grant Award (Emory, 2019). She is an IFBA Certified Professional in Biorisk Management since 2019. Roula was selected as co-chair of TYAN Executive Committee (Nov. 2021).
