Rosemary Bulyaba, an agronomist at Uganda Christian University who recently attended the 2024 TWAS Skill Building Workshop in Dakar, Senegal. In a newly released video from TWAS, she describes how this event allowed her to form new collaborations with fellow African scientists working on similar projects.
"I have been able to build more collaborations with other African scientists who are doing work related to mine," she said.
Her research focuses on cowpea, specifically examining how different environmental conditions affect various cowpea growth. Bulyaba is particularly interested in the leaf yield of cowpea and is exploring the development of instant soups from cowpea leaves.
Bulyaba's journey as a scientist was significantly bolstered by the Seed Grant for New African Principal Investigators (SG-NAPI) grant. This grant, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), provided the necessary funding to propel her ideas into reality and bring new students into her research. It was also crucial in enabling her to pursue her scientific goals without compromising her responsibilities as a mother, because its 'Scientist after Child' component provided funding for a research assistant to help manage her students and projects while she took care of her baby.
