How can we ensure that women’s voices are central to climate solutions? This was the focus of a session hosted by TWAS at the international symposium GeoAdriatico, held on 14 June in Trieste, Italy—and now available to watch online.

The session explored how climate change disproportionately affects women, deepening existing inequalities and threatening human rights. Chaired by TWAS Executive Director Marcelo Knobel, it featured the TWAS–Elsevier Foundation Project Grants for Gender Equity and Climate Action, which supports innovative, women-led projects that build climate resilience.

Speakers from Asia, Africa, South America, and Europe shared local strategies and personal insights on the intersection of gender equity and environmental action. The discussion highlighted the importance of inclusive, community-driven approaches to climate challenges.

Speakers included Max Paoli (TWAS programme coordinator, Italy), Sara Nowreen (Institute of Water and Flood Management, Bangladesh), Lydie Stella Koutika (Research Center on Productivity and Sustainability of Industrial Plantations, Republic of the Congo), Vania Torrez (Agua Sustentable, Bolivia), and Maria Cristina Fossi (University of Siena, Italy).
