TWAS 27th General Meeting

News and information about the 27th TWAS General Meeting in Kigali, Rwanda, from 14 to 17 November 2016.

The 27th TWAS General Meeting was held 14-17 November at the Kigali Convention Centre, in the Rwandan capital of Kigali, with the theme of "Innovation for Sustainability". Rwanda is globally recognized for its ambitious efforts to drive economic development and human prosperity through science, education and technology, and it has emerged as an African leader in science policy.

The meeting featured the traditional ministerial session, with high-level government and policy representatives offering detailed views of the challenges and opportunities requiring science in the developing world. Symposia focused on science related to epidemics; insights into the universe; and science and technology in Rwanda. The annual TWAS-Lenovo Prize and other high-level awards were announced, and new TWAS Fellows and Young Affiliates selected.

This was the first TWAS General Meeting held in Rwanda. The Rwandan Ministry of Education served as the principal host.
