The Global Research Council (GRC) is comprised of the heads of science and engineering funding agencies from around the world. The Council promotes best practices for high-quality collaboration among funding agencies worldwide. TWAS is represented on the Governing Board, and in 2012, it helped to organize a key regional conference in Ethiopia.
The Solar Radiation Management Governance Initiative is an international project that seeks to expand the global conversation around the governance of research into a form of geoengineering that aims to reduce the amount of sunlight reaching the Earth’s surface, so-called solar radiation management (SRM).
The Academy's strength resides in the quality and diversity of its membership – internationally renowned scientists elected by their peers.
The main criterion for election as a TWAS Member is scientific excellence. Only those scientists who have attained the highest international standards and have made significant contributions to the advancement of science can be nominated.
Every year, each of the five TWAS Regional Partners selects up to five scientists under the age of 40 to be TWAS Young Affiliates for a period of six years.
