The Institute of Microbiology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, which is home to the CAS-TWAS Centre of Excellence for Biotechnology, welcomed a high-level delegation from the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare of Nigeria on 2 November.
The centre is directly connected through TWAS through its close collaboration with the TWAS East and South-East Asia and the Pacific Regional Partner. George F. Gao, the director of the CAS-TWAS Centre of Excellence for Emerging Infectious Disease, greeted the delegation, and emphasized the importance of strengthening international cooperation in public health science and technology.
The delegation was led by the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare Muhammad Ali Pate. Pate spoke of Nigeria’s strong commitment to global health and biomedical development, noting that enhanced cooperation with the Chinese Academy of Sciences would contribute to the development of health sciences in Africa. Gao expressed hope to work closely with Nigerian institutions to cultivate more outstanding scientific talent and jointly advance health innovation across Africa.
