Biodata:
Chaudhary (PhD, born 1953, Bara-Nepal) is Emeritus Professor, Tribhuvan University (TU), Kirtipur, Nepal. He has 40 years experience of teaching, research and academic administration. He was Executive Director of a research institute in TU; served as member, National Planning Commission, Nepal; Chairperson, Board of Governors, International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development; Trustee, National Trust for Nature Conservation; Coordinator/Team Leader of national, regional/transboundary (Bhutan, China, India, Nepal) and international (Norway, Italy, USA) programmes. He has contributed to policy formulation for Government of Nepal in biodiversity & environment; widely travelled on foot in mountains of Nepal Himalaya; visited 10 major herbaria (UK, Paris, USA, Germany, Norway, Sweden); received 27 awards and medals; led 28 research projects; supervised 8 PhD and over 60 Master’s theses. He has also established in his name: (i) a Gold Medal Award in TU, and (ii) a Science Scholarship in a Secondary School in the village where he was born and received primary level education. A new plant species from Nepal, Saussurea ramchaudharyi (Asteraceae), was named after him.
