Postdoctoral Fellowships

Through TWAS fellowships—lasting from three months to three years—scientists from developing countries who have recently earned their PhD can gain invaluable experience working with prominent colleagues in other developing countries

To expedite the submission of your application, please, follow the recommendation below:

  • Applications can be submitted only through the online portal and only once the call for the programme of your choice is open
  • To start your application, use the "Apply now" button at the bottom of the programme of your choice
  • Candidates need to upload, along with their application, a preliminary acceptance letter issued in the same year of the application itself by their chosen host institution. Applicants are encouraged to apply for the acceptance letter from the chosen host institutions as early as possible, even before the opening date of the call of the programme of their choice
  • The opening and closing dates of each programme are specified on each programme page
  • Applicants may apply for only one programme per calendar year in the TWAS and OWSD portfolio
  • Applicants may not visit another institution in that year under any other TWAS programme.

The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye (TÜBİTAK) and TWAS have established a fellowship programme for foreign scholars from developing countries in the South who wish to pursue postdoctoral research in a field of the natural and related applied sciences in the departments and laboratories of public and private universities of Türkiye (Turkey) and TÜBİTAK Research Centers and Institutes.

For young scientists from developing countries (other than India) who wish to pursue postdoctoral research in emerging areas in science and technology for which facilities are available in laboratories and institutes of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) of India.

The S.N. Bose National Centre for Basic Science in Kolkata, India, and TWAS have established a fellowship programme for foreign scholars from developing countries who wish to pursue postdoctoral research in physical sciences.

UNESCO-TWAS has partnered with the Ministerial Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (COMSTECH) for the UNESCO-TWAS – COMSTECH Science in Exile Fellowship Programme for displaced and refugee scholars and scientists.
The Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme aims to provide displaced and refugee scientists who have not yet found a safe and long-term host country to pursue postdoctoral studies in Pakistan, at institutions members of the COMSTECH Consortium of Excellence (CCoE).

Early-career researchers from the 21 least developed member countries of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) are eligible for an ambitious new postdoctoral programme offered by IsDB and TWAS. The fellowships support research related to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, providing recipients with high-level training in areas relevant to sustainability science.
