Prof. Adejuwon Adewale ADENEYE [MBBS, PhD, DSc (AM)] is a young Nigerian Scientist, Pharmacologist & Physician affiliated to the Department of Pharmacology, Therapeutics & Toxicology, Lagos State University, Nigeria and specializing in Drug Discovery, Design & Development and Toxicology. He is actively involved in the discovery and development and evaluation of active novel therapeutic compounds from local medicinal plants used in the local management of diabetes mellitus, obesity and hyperlipidaemia. He has discovered a novel antihyperglycemic compound named erinidine, from an indigenous Nigerian medicinal plant, Hunteria umbellata. Recently, his research scope has widened into Functional Food in Health & Disease. He has over 80 research publications in reputable scientific journals, three chapter contributions in books and two published books. In 2013, he was awarded the Young Best Scientist National Award in the Basic Sciences, Technology and Innovation category of the AU-TWAS National Award and nominated TWAS Young Affiliate. He is a Foundation Fellow, Academy of Medicine Specialties of Nigeria (FAMeds) and Fellow, Nigerian Academy of Medicine (FAMed).

Ishmael B. Masesane is Professor of Chemistry and Head of the Chemistry Department of the Faculty of Science at the University of Botswana in Gaborone. He obtained his BSc in chemistry and biology and MSc in natural product chemistry at the University of Botswana and his PhD in organic synthesis at the University of Durham in the United Kingdom. His research areas include phytochemical studies on edible plants, weeds and mushrooms of Botswana, synthesis of cyclohexyl β-amino acids, stereoselective transfer hydrogenation, development of synthetic methodologies to various natural products and the chemistry of persistent organic pollutants. In recognition of his work, he has received two research grants from the Royal Society of Chemistry, United Kingdom, and is a member of several organizations including the Royal Society of Chemistry and the Chemical Society of Botswana.

Uchechukwu M. Chukwuocha is research scientist and senior lecturer in the Department of Public Health Federal University of Technology Owerri, Nigeria. He obtained his PhD in medical and public health parasitology at the Imo State University Owerri,Nigeria(2010). He was awarded the TWAS-DFG visiting scientist at the Institute of Tropical Medicine and International Health Berlin, Germany (2011-2012) where he studied the antimalarial resistance polymorhisms in South Eastern Nigeria. He was also awarded the TWAS-CONACyT post doctoral fellowship to explore the potentials of whole plant therapies as alternative antimalarials at the Laboratory of Molecular Immunology, National Autonomous University of Mexico (2015-2016). His research interest is in the epidemiology, sociocultural aspects and control of malaria and other endemic tropical diseases. Particularly in deriving innovative home grown solutions in controlling these diseases. He has several papers published in peer reviewed journals and presented papers in conferences globally. He is a member of the Parasitology and Public Health Society of Nigeria and the International Society for Infectious Diseases(ISID).

Lawrence Ndekeleni Kazembe is an Associate Professor in applied statistics at the University of Namibia, since 2012, having serving in a similar position at the University of Malawi. He obtained his MSc (2000) in mathematical sciences at Eastern Mediterranean University and PhD (2007) in quantitative epidemiology at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. He was a postdoctoral research fellow on the Medical Research Council of South Africa and junior lecturer in applied statistics at the University of Malawi. He has been a consultant for the Ministry of Health in Zambia and the Malaria Alert Centre of the College of Medicine at the University of Malawi. He has been involved in research projects that have involved the spatial analysis of malariometric indices, statistical mapping of malaria risk in the Southern African Region, urbanization and malaria, spatial analysis and mapping. He is currently working on a project funded by the World Health Organization and the Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR) focused on the prediction of malaria risk in flood-altered environments in the lower Shire valley, Malawi.
